May 14th - Sha Lin Noodle House - Fairview - Braved the New! :^P

Seafood Fried Cutting Noodle with Vegetables aka #1 with Cutting Noodle

It is not as daring as the title would suggest.  We eat here about every 2-3 months as a reliable take out (Noodle options are described in the linked post.).  The VERY popular noodle joint has throngs of regulars despite being flanked by not as busy Asian restaurants on both sides, including a similar handpulled noodle place.  Everytime we go I always order #2-Cumin Flavour.  I do so because the menu, which is primarily in Chinese, has descriptions that do not do much to distinguish the other dishes from each other.  I am sure there are differences in the sauce but they are lost in translation.  Plus, the Cumin one is really good and I am assured I will not be disappointed.  I do the same thing at other of our 'regular' restaurants.  But today I orderd #1-Fried Noodle with Vegetable.  There are 3 others with that exact description though not all of them give you the option of Seafood as the protein.  I was also encouraged by the fact that I could order the 'heat' the way I wanted.

D ordered the Curry Flavour.  We have both tried that one in the past.  The strange thing is that I could not find it on their 'on-line' menu.  No they are not so sophoisticated but I found their menu on a great little service called www.menuette.com.  It was the same menu we have at home in the kitchen drawer.  They scanned each page and added the capability to flip through unlike other services I have seen where it is one gigantic scan.  Well, anyhoo, Curry was not on this version so when we called it in on the way home from Twilight Golf for pick up, they knew what it was.  We do not eat in much anymore unless we have an out of town guest that we want to show the noodle making.

The restaurant, as I have previously written, is a dive but do not be fooled.  All the noodles are made to order and the cooking can be observed in their fishbowl kitchen.  It is always full at lunch and dinner service and the staff are very friendly.  We are regulars and I think the kind older gentleman behind the cash finally recognises me when I come in after 3 years! Woohoo!

Sha Lin Noodle House on Urbanspoon

We had a Pares Balta Cava Brut with. Bubbly needn't  be for special occasions only when you can get a high quality Prosecco or Cava that does not break the bank.
